First Sunday Drive, June 6, 2022, Castro Valley to Crockett
What is so rare as a day in June? Well, a rainy one in the Bay Area!
But that did not deter a hardy band of 19 Mercedes-Benz drivers and navigators from embarking on the June 6 FSD, led by Board members Nadine and Barton Lane. Eleven cars, mostly Benz's, successfully navigated the wet, twisty, and mostly undiscovered backroads from Castro Valley, through Moraga, the pastoral countryside of Briones, the Alhambra Valley, and rural Martinez, ending up at a wonderful brunch at the famous Dead Fish restaurant in Crockett (the “Sugar City”), with its outstanding view over the Carquinez Straits. Along the way we saw some of the most beautiful scenery to be had in the East Bay, with views of reservoirs, farms, and ranches, and rolling hills. In addition to the many cattle and horses, some of us even spotted llamas on the Balestrieri Family Farm in Briones. And when the time came to leave the restaurant, the sun came out for a beautiful afternoon drive home!
